WG 01 – State your policies and new configurations of the economy in Latin America

Syllabus: the State Working Group and its policies aims to bring together work of theoretical and empirical that are related to the perspective of development and the action of the State through its policies and how they impact the social life and meet or not the issues of social inequality. The WG comprises several approaches, case studies of specific policies the comparative analyzes between policies and historical periods, in the different spheres of government. There is also analysis on the tensions and conflicts in the relationship state and society, actors, dynamics, participation and local, social control and limits of democracy in Brazil and other countries in Latin America.


WG 02 – Social movements and struggles socio-territorial waters: perspectives on Latin America and Africa.

Syllabus: this WG suggests to discuss works on realities and analytic categories that argue about theoretical-methodological instruments in the studies on local actors and how they organize their network in political activities, refreshing the social struggles. In this context, the WG contemplates studies about different ways of social organization and in contexts that the local actors develop socio-territorial, urban, rural and ethnical in rights defence struggles – Indigenous people, Quilombola groups, traditional comunities under the development projects impacts.

WG 03 – Major infrastructure works: plants, ports, waterways, highways and railroads.

Syllabus: this WG proposes to discuss concepts predominant in the Pan-amazon, extending to other countries in Latin America, in terms of the planning, deployment, and operation of large hydroelectric projects and mining. Gather works that reveal problems and social conflicts, political, environmental and even economic related to major projects, mobility of labor, capital, conflicts between spheres of power, institutional violence and social precariousness of rights and citizenship.


WG 04 – Nature, society and human: strategies of speeches in dispute in Latin America and the Pan-amazon.

Syllabus: The WG seeks to attract jobs that have been done with the intention to understand the multitude of speeches on the environment and on sustainability, among other concepts that has been produced and incorporated into the debate on environment, and relationship between society, economy and nature. Environmental issues have marked many disciplines and analyzes, in interdisciplinary perspective, in the last two decades. The idea is to understand the relationship with the agents of the environmental field, and reveal the meanings that have driven the social relations, conflicts, the ideas evolucionastes present and how colonial relations pervades these discourses of sustainability within and between nacos, intra and inter regions and localities. Are Welcome work on environmental conflicts (water, mining, energy, climate change, carbon market etc..) and work on environmental policies, strategies of social control and management of territories.


WG 05 – Mining, disasters and neoextrativismos in Latin America

Syllabus: the WG is intended to discuss the mining in Latin America and its role in the world today, especially in the production of inequalities, risks, violence and expropriation, particularly in view of the recent disasters of Minas Gerais (Mariana) and Pará (Barcarena). In addition, the WG aims to discuss the limits of the policy of mining and contribute with social movements, in order to question and deny the foundations of that policy conditionality and unsustainable extractive and socially unjust. 


WG 06 – The Media, production of images and strategies of speeches in dispute.

Syllabus: the WG 06 has the purpose to discuss jobs that bring a contribution to research on the media and the construction of images, information and confrontations in order to unveil processes and discourses on the relations between communication and politics, communication and environment. Field of knowledge marked by games and contests for power. The WG welcomes papers based on empirical research, theoretical and reflections which have as objectives to understand the dimension of discourse and symbolic of the media in relation to politics, how these discourses trasitam and its relation with the construction of democracy in Pan-amazon and in Latin America. Among others, we list some topics:Politics and discourses; media and representation; electoral processes; political journalism; speeches of business media and major projects; the public agenda and public opinion; social networks, collective action, citizenship and media; social inequality and oppression of media and communication; ethics and media; contemporary theorizations on political communication.


WG 07 – Cities and transformation of the urban environment in Latin América.

Syllabus: The field of urban life has been one of the central themes in the analysis of social sciences sheltering several approaches in sociology, anthropology, political science, geography and the field of urbanism, allowing to know the diversity of urban culture as shown by the studies conducted in different countries of Latin America, with approaches quantitative and/or qualitative. The objective is with this GT Cities and the transformation of urban life in the Pan-amazon and Latin America discuss work resulting from theoretical research or empirical about urban life considering key categories such as time, space, identity, uniqueness, difference, everyday life, culture, urban economy and global, politics and urban and regional planning. The WG also covers works that address the political demonstrations in cities, or in its surroundings, but they articulated, aiming to foster critical debate over the urban and limits and potentialities of action privacy and democracy. Prepared under different methodologies of qualitative quantitative analysis.


WG 08 – Migration, mobility and displacement in Latin America: social exclusion, cultural differences and political action.

Syllabus: this WG Migration in Latin America: social exclusion, cultural differences and political action seeks to create a space for discussion about the recent processes of population mobility-from the international migration that has been returned recently as a topic relevant to the understanding of the relationship between politics and displacements theme that involves, so central, the relationship between nation states and civil society, the relationship between history, laws and territorial struggles in international plan and regions, all conflicts current international issues. Latin America, and the Pan – Amazon, live mobility processes rather complex between its borders and territories. This Working Group aims to aggregate studies on various approaches, with an interrogative and criticize, reflecting on the themes: migration context of migration, mobility and large infrastructure projects, territorial struggles, organizations and associations of migrants, social movements, insertion of migrants in other reality and support networks; migration and social differences and ethnic backgrounds.


WG 09 – Social thinking in Pan-amazon and imagination of Latin América.

Syllabus: this WG aims to bring together papers that seek to understand dimensions of thought Brazilian and Latin American face the great contemporary issues. Search engines put in discussion categories, theorizations and interpretations on society and how these elements interfere with the understanding of social reality. Among them are welcome the critical studies about historical narratives and the production of meaning on development in Latin America; interpretations of new processes of occupation of the territories, conflicts, geopolitical tensions, the integration processes in Latin America and the Caribbean; the games of speeches and counter-discourses on integration in Brazil; colonialismos, imperialistic and processes of destabilization in Latin America and the Caribbean; democracy, differences and inequalities. Originating Peoples, ethnic groups and neo-colonialism: the struggles of social movements, several nations and founding of the state. Finally, the WG intends to formulate a research agenda on the topic to understand the complex and growing tensions between social movements and the State observed since manifestations of streets in demonstrations more organized in various Latin American countries in recent decades.


WG 10 – Peasants and land conflicts in Latin America

Syllabus: in the last decades national governments, together with large companies, expanded its field of activity in the Pan – Amazonia with the installation of projects for regional development by observing the production of conflicts to the extent that they advance on the territories of the peoples of traditional peoples (Natives, quilombo, small family producers, bordering, fishermen etc.), with significant impacts on cities and urban territories. In the interests of the WG analyze new ways of mobilizing and production of collective processes of coping with the aim of ensuring their projects of life consistent with their own demands.


WG 11 – Gender, coloniality and feminist theories in Latin América.

Syllabus: the WG is intended to discuss the critical perspective of the coloniality of power as analytical key to Latin America, and has as lines of research questioning the Eurocentric thinking and the cognitive options against modern rationality, which open up the possibility of building new areas of research. In this context, the WG aims to highlight the decolonialidades FEMINISTS in Latin America, which involve a reassessment of knowledge and other possibilities of resistance, as well as propose a change in the discussions on the theories of gender, decentralizing the look on FEMINISMS eurocentrados who do not give account of analyzes that relate to gender and race, gender identities and cultural identities, nor the relationship between racism, imperialism and patriarchal ideologies.
